Doshas | Ayurvedic Constitution Types and Characteristics
Knowing the distinct Body and Mind Structure characteristics of the three main Ayurvedic Body&Mind Constitutional Types, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, and incorporating these suggestions into your daily and seasonal choices will contribute significantly to your wellaging process.
According to Vedic knowledge, creation is composed of five main elements; Ether, air, fire, water and earth. The human being, as a part of the earth and nature, represents the combination of these five main elements. We all have these five elements distributed in different proportions in our Body&Mind constitutional types;
These qualities, which determine our main temperament, our dominant dosha, which is our body&mind constitutional type, and which make everyone unique from each other, are the different distribution rates of these five elements in our physical and mental bodies.
These five elements, ether, air, fire, water and earth, describe the three basic energies that govern our internal and external environment: Movement, Transformation and Structure.
The three main Dosha types in Ayurveda represent these three basic forces; these body types are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha in terminology.
Each of us has different proportions of these three forces, called dosha, which shape our body&mind constitutional type, our basic nature. These basic forces determine the main character traits, tendency and the sensitivities of our physiology, which are the result of the combination of our mental and physical bodies.
VATA Dosha:
Composed of the elemental combinations of ether and air, it represents the principle of Movement.
If Vata is dominant in the Prakruti Dosha test, the physical body tends to be delicate, thin and weak, exuberant, energetic, changeable and quick in thought and action, and has the poorest stress tolerance.
The dominant Vata dosha represents an irregular digestive system and a very sensitive nervous system. Consequently, constipation, dry skin, respiratory pattern disorders due to stress factors and various pains are the first imbalances seen.
PITTA Dosha:
Composed of fire and water elemental combinations, it represents the principle of Transformation. If Pitta is dominant in the Prakruti Dosha test, the physical body is characterized by a prominent muscular structure, a very strong digestive system, an intelligent, talkative, goal-oriented, determined, leader and quick-tempered.
In the physiology of the dominant Pitta dosha with a high acidic structure, various inflammation increases including gastric inflammations, skin rashes and migraines are the first imbalances seen.
KAPHA Dosha:
Composed of the elemental combinations of earth and water, it represents the primary principles of Structure and Protection.
If Kapha is predominant in the Prakruti Dosha test, the tendency is to have a relatively large physical body, to be slow, calm, maternal, docile, frugal, loyal, protective and stable in thought and action, and to have the lowest metabolic rate and the strongest stress tolerance.
The first imbalances seen are easy and rapid weight gain, various accumulations and blockages in the body, especially in the sinuses and lungs, low energy level, lethargy and resistance to a healthy transformation.
Prakruti Dosha Test
The constitutional type you are born with, your dosha, is just like a fingerprint; it is called Prakruti in terminology.
Your Prakruti, the distribution of elements in the Body & Mind combination you were born with, is the formula for the balance in which you feel healthy, balanced and fit throughout your life. When this balance is disturbed for various reasons, diseases begin to emerge.
Ayurvedic Medicine states that the digestive system is the most important indicator of overall health. By learning your Ayurvedic Body&Mind Constitutional Type, that is, the Dosha you were born with, you can learn first of all the sensitivities of your Enteric Nervous System, teh Respiratory System and the Digestive System, which scientists describe as the second brain, and with the recommendations in this direction, you can prevent possible inflammation in your physiology and reduce the oxidative stress load. These measures form the basis of a strong immune system.
The scores you receive as a result of the Prakruti Dosha Test show your innate dosha distribution. With the Prakruti test you discover the basic elemental distribution formula of your nature, but this data may not represent your current elemental distribution, your Vikruti. The Vikruti Test detects the current dosha imbalance, if any.
For the determination of your Vikruti, you can get consultancy from an Ayurveda Instructor or Doctor or you can participate in Gedik University certified training programs under the roof of Yükselen Çağ Wellbeing Academy.
